Project Overview
Oaklands Hill Wind Farm is a $180 million project consisting of up to 43 wind turbines located on a series of ridgelines 3-5 kilometres south of Glenthompson in western Victoria.
The aim is to develop an environmentally and economically sound wind farm.
Under the proposed development timetable, this wind farm will generate 280,000 megawatt -hours of power each year from the start of 2009, thereby making a major contribution to reducing Victoria's greenhouse gas reductions. These reductions would equate to:
- Taking 84,000 cars off the road
- Producing enough electricity to power 52,000 homes
- Planting 543,000 trees
The wind farm will provide renewable energy to be used locally and exported to the national grid while contributing to the Victorian government target of 1000MW of wind energy and having 10% of Victoria's energy consumption being met by renewable resources by 2016.
Because the wind farm will have an electrical capacity of more than 30 megawatts, the planning application must be lodged with the Minister for Planning for assessment. The Southern Grampians Shire council will however be a key referral authority during the Minister's assessment.
It is proposed that the project will connect to the Powercor 66 kilo-volt Hamilton to Terang network which is located approximately 17.5km south of the site.
